How can I hide my double chin?

Whether it's mildly irritating or developed into a full-blown complex, double chins can be a real pain in the neck! Here's how best to deal with it.

Why do I have a double chin in the first place?

Double chins are formed by a combination of sagging skin and a lack of muscular tone; a natural effect of ageing and one that becomes increasingly visible over time. But that's not all: piling on the pounds can also cause sagging skin and a heavier-looking face. Plus, the appearance of a double chin can be related to hormonal problems that require specialist treatment.

Reduce your double chin with a cream

Twice as thin as facial skin, neck skin needs just as much pampering. It's one of the first parts of the body to show ageing skin and weight gain. Start by applying your usual cream to your face and neck. If you've already got a double chin, opt for treatments designed to reduce it, as they're packed with active ingredients that will tone up and define your facial contour.

Tone up your double chin with a facial workout

The neck is a muscular area that needs to be kept in shape. Start by sticking out your tongue as far as possible, so as to stretch your neck skin to the max. Then place your chin against your neck and look over your shoulder, moving from left to right. Finally, stimulate your facial muscles by stretching your skin, using your palms and working out from your cheeks to your ears.

Hide your double chin with some clever contouring

Contouring allows us to redefine our facial contours. Using a contouring pen that's brighter than your skin tone, start by highlighting your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and add a touch to your nasolabial fold (the lines from your nostrils to the edges of your lips). Follow by shading, using a matte bronzing powder and dusting it below your cheekbones and along your jawline. This will slim and define your chin.
